I agree with the President that gun laws should be decided locally.
I live in a city but have lived in the country. I understand why people in the country want guns, but here in the city, they are pretty useless for anything but sport. And if they are to be used for sport, they should be licensed, accounted for and locked up when not in use.
We have good police services. Our neighbors live right close to us. We just do not need a lot of weapons. The kids (read gang-members) get a hold of them, and wreak havoc on the streets. On streets right near me. On streets a few blocks from me.
We have small children, lots of them, living in our neighborhood. I really hate to think that a stray bullet could shatter a window and the lives of a family, a friend of mine.
What is your suggestion? We cannot prevent the gangs from getting guns when there are so many guns and so many people have them. We already have a gang injunction. It ensnares people who aren't in gangs. It is enforced, and the kids face serious consequences just for talking to friends on the streets. So the only criminals will have guns argument does not work. Our gang injunction should make gang shootings impossible. They don't. Any ideas?
