Apparently, at that time it was just a husk of a city with maybe 30k villagers within the wall. Once the Ottomans took over, the city had a kind of rebirth. The Turks restored much of the infrastructure--fixing the damage caused by the 4th Crusade, among other things, and after about a century, the population was around 400k.
