(18,881 posts)I think the police are going to have to seriously re-evaluate their tactics after this Dorner mess. A free nation has no room for a fascist police force. We all read the stories every day where there is abuse of power by those we entrust to uphold the law.
There's a reason some people are walking the fine line of almost defending or at least supporting some of the items in Dorner's manifesto and his feelings towards the LAPD (without condoning his cold-blooded murder of 3 innocent people). He may be mentally disturbed, but I have no doubt that some of his observations about how the LAPD operates are dead on. I've met enough people in uniform to know that they will pose dead bodies in humiliating and disgusting ways and take pictures for their amusement. It's revolting and inexcusable.
Dorner aside, many of us who are law-abiding citizens have had personal experience with bad cops who think they can pull shit like this and get away with it (because the truth is, they do. We read about it every day. The cop who follows women hiking in the desert with his helicopter, then stops them and harasses them. Another cop gropes a pregnant woman. Countless "perps" getting shot in the back. Others bust into homes, scare the crap out of sleeping children, shoot the dog and, "Oops!" Wrong house. Nothing is done. This isn't some f*cking Wild West myth where you shoot 'em up and see if you can hit the bad guy. The victims are real people and this is gross negligence that will likely be swept under the rug.
