They were placed on the threatened list not because of declining numbers, but because of the possible long term effects of global warming on their habitat. Native American subsistence hunters are allowed to hunt them as they have for millennia (as in this case)...and as they should be..they are not trading in polar bear products, they are using the bears for human survival in desperate climate conditions..
