(2,899 posts)He was a bricklayer and did a five year apprenticeship in his teens.. He could not have worked a year more than he did, he'd had enough. I'm so amazed how he held up. He only had a achy shoulder. His hands were massive and rock hard. Now in his 80's he has a serious none work related illness.
Every time I hear these arse holes talking about raising the retirement age, I think of my dad. He was so happy to retire when he did and if someone had told him he'd have to work another year, I think he would have died on the spot.
Bennyboy, I have chronic debilitating pain from years of working too hard and an autoimmune illness. I feel for you. I take narcotics for it... just enough so I can still be useful and not have to distracted by the awful pain.
