(7,429 posts)My husband was in construction his whole life. Then he was downsized. He was 55 years old and he had to start over. I can honestly say - Thank God. Now he works at Lowe's. It's hard work, yes. But not as painful on his back and/or physicality. And now he has health-care. When you work in construction you are sometimes a contractor and are basically self-employed. And here in Florida we are a Right-To -Work state. Or should I say Right to Get Fired for No Reason State. When he belonged to the union when he was in his 20's and 30's he was making a decent living. But like you the wages started to dry up and the work got harder. He's 58 now and I can't believe he could last past 65. The body takes a toll and sometimes you can't get better from it.
Take care my friend
