And you're quite right: the fact that the laity have a voice has been crucial to this process. But as I pointed out in another thread to a Roman Catholic who said he wished to stay behind to be a "force for good," if I were a Roman Catholic, I would certainly be asking myself how much of a "force for good" I could realistically be in a church that gives the laity no voice whatsoever in church governance.
