In reply to the discussion: Sexist salad dressing [View all]Warren DeMontague
(80,708 posts)72. It's Kraft, so it's probably up to the gills with High Fructose Corn Syrup.
But what they're trying to do is spin off the old spice guy. It's not that they "have to" do anything, it's that there are only so many ways you can sell salad dressing. Like, mmmmmm, this shit tastes really good when you pour it over tomatoes and cucumbers!
That's about it.
Insurance is another one. How the hell do you sell insurance? "Your shit gets broken, we send you a check" That's what insurance does, but it doesn't make for a very compelling 30 second ad. So you get the duck. The cavemen. etc.
Some things you just can't sell at all, which is why you don't see ads for, say, coffins.

Fair's fair. Tits sell, men's buns sell. Buldges sell. Sex in general sells.

To be frank, sex has always been a commodity to trade and sell, at best...

I really don't get it, are all expressions of human sexuality supposed to be sexist or something?

As with salad dressing, drain cleaner companies face a similar dilemma.
