(62,325 posts)The standards are low though. To succeed it is necessary to update material, using old material identifies them for one thing, and it's stale, musty, like an old, empty neglected house.
If I were to spend my time thinking up ways to attack a political group, I sure wouldn't be using old, jaded phrases that were paid for long ago but used so often to no avail they are like an old, rag that was never very useful in the first place.
But then, I wouldn't be doing that because I can defend my views. These old tactics are generally intended to provide people with material to use when certain policies are indefensible and to try to defend them would useless. It's an interesting phenomenon, I first noticed it about 12 years ago on a political blog when I thought all the Right Wingers were one person because they all used the same words and phrases to attack Democrats with. It was amazing and then someone explained to me they were using packaged language delivered to them by Rush et al, or in newsletters etc.
When the 'left' counterparts, using almost the exact same words and phrases to attack the Left, began to emerge around 2003 it was obvious they had decided to emulate the right wing because as one of them said 'it works'. Works? Lol, we mostly laughed at them. Maybe that was the result they wanted, to be laughed at, in which case I suppose they were right.
