(2,522 posts)... the man who said that, Mark Antony, was actually misdirecting when he said that.
Brutus had just given the people the reasons the senators had killed Caesar. The citizens were convinced by Brutus' reasoning, and so Antony had to pretend to also criticize Caesar. Once he got deeper into his speech, though, he turned against the senators and changed the people's minds.
As for symbolic Brutuses, I think most people would say that Brutus was the moral hero of the play-- he reluctantly killed his dear friend because he feared he was becoming a tyrant. The rest of the senators were not necessarily as noble-minded.
None of this is meant to have anything to do with Obama, but just wanted to point out your quote may not be saying what it seems at first.
