Rachel Maddow insulting people with mental illness [View all]

I watch her show every night but something she said a couple of nights who really rubbed me the wrong way. I can't find the clip online but she was talking about the NRA-written Louisiana law that let an armed felon out of jail and then started talking about the gun show loophole and how someone with mental illness doesn't have to worry about background checks because they said they just can go buy one at a gun show.

I swear to Jesus, her quote re this topic was something like this:

"Go buy one AR-15, go buy 3. Go nuts. Oh wait, you already are."

Isn't this part of the prob in America? There's a stigma against mental illness and Rachel certainly isn't helping things by referring to people as "nuts". We stopped referring to people with mental retardation as "retards" and it is generally considered unacceptable to refer to mental illness sufferers as "nuts". She wasn't talking about Loughner or Lanza here, she was talking about your average person who might fail a background check due to mental illness history. If we are trying to deal with the stigma of mental illness then she isn't helping. I asked my friends who are also fans of the show and they agreed it was out of line. My conservative friends didn't see the problem with what she said.

I emailed her and asked her to apologize on air for what she said. Ill try to find the clip or feel free to post it. This is the only time where I've actually physically recoiled at something she said. This is something Limbaugh would say. You're better than that, Rachel. Now apologize.

What say you? Honestly I expect to hear some defend her but I hope not. It was out of line.
