Will Israel's bombing of Syria set off a wider Mideast conflict? [View all]

I don't know the answer to this but it seems to me that bombing Damascus as the Israelis did last night, is an inflammatory move that will have repercussions for the region.

I don't understand the rationale behind bombing Syria. How on earth can this move enhance Israel's security?
