Come on, man, even a conflict over North Korea couldn't do that.

And you need to keep in mind that similar conflicts have happened between Israel and Syria....namely, the Yom Kippur War and whatever the one in '82 was called.
Particularly in 1982, nuclear tensions were beginning to run rather high with the Soviets and given that Syria was an unofficial friend of the Communist superpower and that Israel was an official ally of the U.S. & NATO, there was some real potential for a truly global conflict had things gone south(even if not quite all that likely), including the usage of nuclear weapons; this isn't the 1980s and a lot of things have changed, including Russia's relationship with the U.S>

I hate to say this, but all this talk of WWIII every time a small something comes up quite frankly reeks of Alex Jones-esque fearmongering, and quite unfortunate that some progressive institutions are STILL pushing this as well.
