(14,139 posts)But I also think SOME people want to make it more simple (simplistic) than it really is.
It's much easier to say 'men and boys treat women this way/think of women as objects' than it is to say, "Not all men are misogynist jerks, probably a minority are, but it is still far too many--and look at the results, look how it can impact women."
If you like being found guilty by association then I guess there is no problem.
I find it unfair and specious to be lumped in with the bad apples just because I may share the same gender or the same skin color or whatever. For example:
You're male. Some males are sexist pigs. It's easier to say "men are sexist pigs." Ergo, you are a sexist pig.
You're Caucasian. Some Caucasians are racist jerks. It's easier to say "Caucasians are racist jerks." Ergo, you're a racist jerk.
Yes, OBVIOUSLY we can all be better human beings. But accusing everyone in a group of the rotten behavior committed by a minority of the group is a really lousy tactic to try to motivate people to change their behavior. It's dishonest.
Well, I've said my peace. I've nothing more to add to (or detract from, as the case may be) this discussion. It has been a pleasure conversing with you.
