Obama was winning soundly against the stumbling & bumbling Romney - seemingly on his way to a landslide win.
Then, in the first debate, Romney pulled his etch-a-sketch routine and embraced moderate policies that were at odds with all the hard right stances he campaigned on over the previous year. Following that, the Romney slide stopped and he had a big post-debate bounce that put him within striking distance.
And, his foreign policy was, as Bill Maher said, "What he (Obama) said, only from a white guy." Again, more moderation.
Obama still won handily, but he could very well have won an historic landslide if Romney continued his embrace of extremism.

Coburn said he is retiring in 2016. That ad needs to be tailored more generically against all GOP.
