(29,414 posts)35. It's probably the realism part they don't like.
As I recall from the director's comments, they left the original echoing sounds of the guns in place because it sounded like it would in a "real" situation. The "looped" sounds (as I recall their terminology) didn't sound right in the final edit.
And if you think about it, look at all of the other Michael Mann movies where guns are prominent, such as "Thief", "Manhunter", "Public Enemies" and they're all pretty realistic in their "gun play".
