I recall on various forums that when someone posted something over-the-top crazy or stupid, most of the corrections/chiding were not due to the view as such, but more for the worry that it was impolitic. Now these weren't political forums as such, but general "lounge" type boards in forums of other interests/hobbies and politics were the most common subject.

The most common complaint among posts were people calling each other's claim to an ideology in question just because they didn't tow every aspect of the neocon line. Yeah, herd mentality.
