I like the four cylinder Volvos because I have a very long history with them (always bought used); they are awesomely safe; they have nearly unbreakable engines and transmissions and next to no maintenance costs due to extremely great design and reliability.
I paid less than 1600 for it, for which I saved my SocSec for seven months. I paid cash, and then spent a couple hundred more to get it ready for the upcoming MI winter. One doesn't mess around with those things here in my very rural national forest area.
So when I drive the 15 miles each way to the closest grocery store, a Meiers superstore right next to a Walmart (the only grocers within many miles), and use my food stamps, don't follow me to the parking lot and point fingers at me for driving a European car. First, walk a mile in my shoes.
I have been saving for a new refrigerator which went out about the time I bought the car. It's difficult when has to also buy heating oil to keep things comfortable. Alas, that too will come. I've been saving for the fridge for months, too.
Now, if the roof would only stop leaking, I'd be in pretty good shape.
