(1,708 posts)I've heard that analogy in the past and it has a degree of validity when we consider our duly elected representatives voted for the Patriot Act overwhelmingly for nearly a decade.
Then I ask you: does our Congress truly represent the voice of the People? The final passage of the ACA made no mention of a public option. Background checks for gun buyers could not pass through the Senate because of a minority of senators objecting despite its popularity with the general public. There are countless examples of approved legislation that thwarts the will of the People.
Congressional legislation reflects the influence of dollars, not the votes of the People, and that phenomenon, alone, permits us to question the legitimacy of All legislation that compromises Constitutional Rights!
