After OJ was acquitted, Fred Goldman, father of Ron Goldman sued OJ in civil court and won. The burden of proof in a civil trial (preponderance if the evidence) is much lower than in a criminal case (beyond the shadow of a doubt). If Z is acquitted, he'd have a very hard time winning a wrongful death suit.

Perhaps the stand your ground law in FL prohibits wrongful death suits when someone has been acquitted using a SYG defense?
