9. Civil law is different and separate from criminal law

I don't know Florida law for certain but I would guess they can still sue for wrongful death. Civil trials have a far lower standard of preponderance of evidence rather than beyond a reasonable doubt.

Someone mentioned SYG which is a criminal defense and I don't believe would have any bearing on a civil case.

Of course it was in CA, but OJ was acquitted, but still lost a civil suit. And in this case, we know Zimmerman killed Trayvon.

Now I'm going by the law where I live as I understand it and I'm not a lawyer. Perhaps someone here knows FL law? But most answers you get will be speculation.
