In reply to the discussion: Don't you just love President Jimmy Carter? [View all]byeya
(2,842 posts)8. I don't love President Jimmy Carter; I love ex-President Jimmy Carter.
As president he oversaw the first significant deregulation of vital services and filled his cabinent with very conservative people. He was not a good president and got primaried(I got to vote for Jesse Jackson again).
He was an honest decent man even when president but his policies were not what the country needed in the main. That the country needed an honest and moral person after Nixon and Ford is true and he fulfilled that - I wish he had been more for the wage earners and less for he rentiers.

With the exception of the late George McGovern, I can't think of a national figure/politician

I also had my issues with President Carter, but voted for him over Reagan

Posted on FB and someone there says that Carter didn't say this, that John Fuselgang did.

But by today's standards Carter looks a lot more liberal than he did then.

There's not a hint of antisemitism about Carter. A statement wholly without foundation.

A very decent human being, victimized by Reagan demagoguery - I was heart broken when he lost.
