(8,377 posts)I listed 3 issues, not a "single issue". And I think we could identify a dozen more that are all part of a very disturbing pattern. The upshot is that I can barely recognize the guy that was giving all hose progressive-sounding speeches during his two campaigns.
Maybe I am naive, but like millions of others, I held back criticism during his first term because we all know the lesser of evils argument. We all knew that it was very important to not have the GOP back in the White House in 2013. I was moderate in my criticism when he seemed to miss opportunity after opportunity to be a strong progressive leader. His strongest supporters said, "He's playing 9-dimensional chess. He is practicing jiu jitsu on the Republicans. He can't take them on directly because he'll come across as 'angry black man'. Just wait and see. He's got this thing."
So I reasonably expected that after we got him reelected, he would be free to show more leadership.
What we have seen instead is the incredible disappearing man, and worse than that, it seems he has disappeared into the right wing bubble.
Maybe this is who he was all the time and I just wanted to see something different. But I think I am a little more worldly than that. I think I was conned.
