If this were merely a consensual "affair" it would be one thing, and not particularly of interest to anyone. But it was not; it was worse ... because it involved an abuse of power. Some of the women who received pictures and texts did not consent to it. Many were young and looked up to this person of power. This is not a victimless act.
I frankly don't care WHAT his wife permitted him to do or accepted. That is of no interest to me as a voter. As a voter I want to know that the person I elect as mayor has common sense (sending pictures of your penis to strangers in no way constitutes common sense), self-control (sending penis pictures even after you have been caught and publicly humiliated shows crazy lack of self-control), and integrity (out and out lying to the public, repeatedly, displays a lack of integrity).
This has nothing to do with Anthony Weiner's marriage. His wife is welcome to forgive him as much as she wants, and let him continue to sext with strangers. But the voters have a different set of issues to consider. As a voter, I wouldn't trust him to make good decisions or be honest with the citizens.
