At least a big enough deal to have done two segments on Filner so far this week.
And yes, this is significant; the initial request to step down came from within the party, solid supporters basically saying "do the right thing...please!"
But Filner said no, and now we are probably going to see some very public charges, and some serious damage to an already very tenuous blue majority. It is the kind of thing that just fulfills the stereotype for republicans, and makes Dems just say "screw it".
And it is also a political blacklight, starkly segregating the DLC party loyalists from the actual progressives.
Damn, I wish this train wreck wasn't happening!

It's a local story. So is the Weiner story, except his locale is the media center of the universe.
