In reply to the discussion: Why is the national media mostly doing a lousy job of the Filner story? [View all]nadinbrzezinski
(154,021 posts)But not the full explanation.
As I said in the OP...televisa made sense, border town, San Diego affects Tijuana. CBC did not by that logic
Regardless, my view is that the media is lazy, but also protective of the hands that feed it. We see that here locally where editors are afraid of speaking bad words of people in power...so to keep bridges....at times turn the other way.
In this case I think the national media is afraid of possible connections to the hill. So they control the story and do a lousy job.
I mean, Lawrence O'Donnel knows Filner from his years in the hill. I get it people here don't know. He is also a Cali resident. So there is far more to that decision. And Weiner is easy too...just drive down the office.
For the sake of argument, if this exploded under the previous mayor, you'd be very correct, as in the previous mayor being under that cloud. And for the record the media at national level covered the financial problems in 2002-3 far more closely and called San Diego, Enron by the Sea.
It actually reminds me of Occupy and how it was, or was not, covered.
