6. Such a moment has to be carefully nurtured, the 60's movement excluded women and GLBT people

to a great degree, which is why those movements lived on while the other went and got a job on Wall Street. Each day on DU I see people straining to find ways to be 'confused' about transgender people so they can divide us all up, I see them constantly degrade and dismiss GLBT posters, our questions are not answered, our concerns are mocked as 'wanting a pony' and the bulk of DU seems like it would very easily turn on us in a heartbeat. Not to mention the horrific things I have read about other groups, 'Latin America is but a cyst on the anus of the world' is a real winning way to make community with our Latino siblings, but that was said on DU 'to support Obama'. I am not going to be associated with that sort of rhetoric ever. Hate is not acceptable, xenophobia is not acceptable.

So you are right. We need to listen. Starting with listening to each other.
