(25,699 posts)Think back to the political party, Social Democrats, USA. For the most part it was just what it said on the tin, social democrats in the United States. However, it was also a staunchly, almost rabidly anti-communist party. Now, fair enough, everyone gets to have their opinions, but this policy attracted some... characters, particularly in the party's waning days of the 90's to 2005 - namely, the neoconservative shitwhips that brought us PNAC. They basically hijacked the party's name as a cover for their agendas.
Here too we can see the same pattern of neoconservative shitwhippery being draped in the toga of progressive thought. The left is the enemy, war is always good, bow before authority, surveillance is just fine, the media is evil and leftist, the UN is irrelevant and should be ignored.
It's the exact same rhetoric and arguments you will find on any right-wing outlet, but here, it tacks the word "progressive" onto itself, and liberals, who sadly seem to be fairly gullible about this sort of thing, just see the word and assume what's being said must actually be from authentic progressive perspectives
