(19,240 posts)I am commenting upon the character that some guy chose to play on an internet video in order to get his 15 minutes of fame. For all I know, he does not even have a daughter. The fact that the video has gone viral--and that a facebook friend even lauded the sentiment it expressed---means that the character of the gun shooting "dad" is now public domain, and I would be remiss if I did not point out what an extremely bad parenting model he is.
I suspect that many out there who initially praised the dude are now squirming uncomfortably as the inevitable backlash occurs. They should not. This is a learning experience for everyone. The way we react to fiction---including the fiction that calls itself nofiction---tells us a lot about ourselves.
Now, here is a bit of free psychoanalysis. When we feel the need to defend a fictional character, it usually means that we identify with that character.
