(14,307 posts)and on-line voting could be phased in over a period of time. Again, it would be a secure government site--much like the IRS has for storing our tax returns. It could be possible to print out completed ballots and have county drop-offs as a back-up. This is only an idea I thought about when reading all the stories about voter suppression--limiting polling places and voting hours in heavily democratic areas. Who can forget the voting machines owned by a company connected to Tag Romney? Or the hanging chad disaster in Florida? What about provisional ballots? Votes are already hacked, discounted, or outright denied. People are intimidated and abused by others who try to prevent them from voting. Even the several hours long line-ups are a form of abuse.
As for volunteers helping others--they already do.
