In reply to the discussion: I'm a little scared. I need some hugs tonight. [View all]jtuck004
(15,882 posts)134. GSP Manny, you made me flash back to a sheer moment of terror I had earlier...
I was watching the coverage, listening to them talk about the 100,000 children and families that have been killed in Syria in the past couple of years, which hadn't really alarmed anyone, and how much worse the 1100 killed in the "gas attack" made things, what with their dying and not being all blown up and stuff. I have heard us threaten to do something, to right this evil, that we were going to send bombs over there and blow more things up (here are some things left to blow up, right? Or do we need to give them some aid to build some new stuff and blow that up?) so we can kill people to teach them that killing by bombs is ok, but not with gas. because that's just wrong, eh?
But then I heard about the delays, and I nearly climbed up on my chair yelling at the television, "NO! We can't wait! We have to go now" and "We have to teach them, else they will gas the whole world". I began yelling "USA! USA! USA!" (to tell you the truth I was getting a little aroused, as war plans will do for people). Anyway, I finally calmed down, because I heard Obama said he would go drop that bomb on his own, even if he didn't get anyone else to agree with him. We have to protect ourselves!
But then...as if our of nowhere, this cloud enveloped me, and I began to gasp for air, nearly retching onto the carpet. I began to panic, thinking "Oh, Lord., we've waited too long, he's found a away to send his missiles over here, and now thousands of people are going to die...
But, as the cloud passed, I realized that I wasn't dying after all. It was just my dog, who had gotten into the green beans. They always give him gas.
I'm with you, GSP Manny. Or I will be, after I take the dog outside.

They're going to deliver the payload via tiny model ships. They should be here in roughly 8 months.

You know, it's possible to critique the President without being glib about the deaths of children.

Do you support escalation? Do you think Congress should be involved in the decision?

So 'glib' is your complaint? But it is ok to exploit the dead to build up interest in making more

Yes--I find that being glib about a Sarin gas attack is a facile, and ultimately not helpful
