It's easier to believe the guys shooting at you are terrorists than those with actionable reasons to shoot back (in reality, all revolutionaries are terrorists, anyway; it's only when they win that they get to call themselves revolutionaries).

Had the UK won the Revolutionary War it would've been called The Colonialist War of Aggression on the Royals or something and the territory known as the US would be under British control. Hell, the comparison is especially apt since the American Revolutionaries had effectively no governance, no army, no navy, etc. Biggest difference between the two is that the Continental Army had one objective, getting rid of the British, while the "Free Syrian Army" can hardly be considered a unified grouping and is highly fragmented. (The American Revolutionaries had the Atlantic dividing them from the British for the most part; Canada notwithstanding.)
