17. I still choose to never give up

There are a lot of us who know we will lose in the end, but continue to fight against the inevitable defeat.

I have a severely autistic grandson. His mom (my daughter) walked out on him when he was 4. His dad (my ex SIL) took care of him until he was 18 and then said he was finished. My grandson lives with us now. I know that he will eventually end up institutionalized, because there will come a point when I am too old to care for him. But it's not today, and it won't be tomorrow. I will never give up, even though time and old age will win in the end. I will continue to fight until I am finally beaten. I will know that I never gave up, that I did everything in my power to keep him safe and at home and in my care until I could not go on any longer.

Even though I will fail, I will never give up.
