A few years back, when The Guardian failed to comply completely with The Martyr's dicta for publication of the cables Manning had sent him, he threatened to sue, citing his belief that The Guardian was damaging his financial interests, which (he thought) must derive from his "ownership" of those cables

The Guardian somehow not retreating in the face of this threat, no suit materialized -- and a most natural guess might be that, when Julian the Blessed consulted counsel more competent than himself on these matters, he was advised that his non-standard creed of ownership and financial interest would likely find little favor in actual Halls of Justice
