...because I cautioned that Republicans will pay little to no political price for their reckless actions. You would have thought I was telling a group of 5 year olds there was no Santa Clause.
This was disappointing, but not surprising. Liberals faith in their fellow man and the system is both a wonderful attribute and a fatal flaw. It's why we've been losing for 30 years and have virtually no political power or voice. While the other side sets about to methodically and strategically control the national messaging and utilize their limited power to maximize its effect on policy...we liberals sit around laughing with John Stewart and confidently assuming that eventually the electorate will "catch on".
This is playing out again here at DU and across the liberal blogosphere - this history-defying belief that THIS TIME Republicans have gone too far and surely will pay the price.
As Thomas Friedman wrote about today in the TIMES, regardless of how this shut down plays out, it just isn't going to happen.
