The longer it goes on, the more the impasse -must- somehow engage willfulness among all its parties--even if the willfulness of Dem's only amounts to the 'let them cry themselves out' tactic.
Consequently, democrats cannot -just- sit there. Dem's must continue to provoke the R's into revealing it is the teahadist faction of their caucus that is the continuing source of the problem.
Without that, the crisis drags beyond it's initiation and the reasons for its continuous become more ambiguous, and the anti-government rebel faction gets more cover.
It should be clear to anyone paying half-attention that the republican talking points are built on the idea that Dem's won't negotiate. This GOP false-flag operation is intent on deceiving and growing their selfish lie into a casus belli that feeds the anger of their anti-federal rebel base and gains sympathy from those who bear the brunt of spreading pain caused by the shutdown.
Are the American people slow enough to be taken in by the deception?
Remember the phrase "Ya, you betcha"?
