His politics won't affect your willingness to watch him pretend to be someone else for 2 hours, fine. But his politics might impact who is willing to work with him, often being himself, in extremely close quarters for an extended period of time. I think that is also fine. Would you sign up for a cross-country drive with a rabid right-winger?
His difficulties in Hollywood might have less to do with consumers paying to see his movies, than with other artists not wanting to work with him. His outspokenness in the media suggests he probably expresses his opinions in day-to-day interactions as well.
I'm sure there are conservative actors that might not sign on to a project with Ben Affleck, for example.
