67. The lesson of the Dixie Chicks is don't ...
Thu Oct 10, 2013, 04:57 PM
Oct 2013

Shit on your audience's deeply held belief system and then expect to be received with open arms, especially by the people putting money in your pocket.

Country Music fans did exactly what Progressives often clamor to do. They organized a Boycott, and it made a big difference. The Chicks have done ONE album since then, and I doubt they will every do another together. Even the sisters have distanced themselves from Maines with their Courtyard Hounds duo.

Many Progressives had never even heard of the Chicks until Maines opened her mouth. As much derision has been expressed here for Country Music, it seems Progressives didn't care before, and still don't like Country Music. Well that is their loss. At least with Country Music, I know I can hear a story with some human feelings and emotions in it.

Do I love the Dixie Chicks music, yes. Do I have their albums, yes. Do I still listen to them, absolutely. Maines has a glorious voice. The sisters are consummate musicians.

But I also think Maines behaved like a fucking idiot. But that doesn't stop me from deriving real pleasure from their artistry.
