(7,549 posts)My family were farmers and our land has been in our family for years. I don't think anyone should be allowed to take that away. We have always paid our taxes on time, proudly, and without protest.
My basic theory is all people in a society should have access to what they need for basic survial like food, clothing, shelter(with proper heat/cooling) health care and I'd aruge education. I think the government and private sector have a duty to provide these things at least at a basic sustaining level to those who cannot afford it on their own due to old age, disabiilty, undereducation, or to all who are unemployed through no fault of their own in difficult economic periods. Basically what we had except for the health care part under well regulated capitalism.
It's funny some people now equate that with communism.
We can provide for the basics for those in need through fair taxation, but the problem is the rich asses don't even want that. There is no way 99 percent of the wealth should be at the top alone which is what poorly regulated capitalism has given us.
When I have shared this theory with some of my family they ask where is the incentive to work?
I said this is where the wants come in. If you want a new e gadget, fancy clothes, a nice car, new furniture, you should absolutely still have to work to get those, and the private sector gets their profit on that stuff.
Plus most people if they have a choice I believe want to do something productive or they get bored.
This is all JMHO.
