but doesn't this essentially create 3 factions in the house? Isn't it possible that the "majority minority" faction (aka the Democrats) could join with the not bat-shit insane R's and re-elect Bohner as speaker?

Speaker is an officer of the House, not an appointment by a caucus (like majority leader is).
