(15,882 posts)84. Yeah, that article touches on that, and there are many more. But
because the stuff is so thick, and I have experience with a bit of pipeline work in my past, they have to treat it just to get through, and that isn't cheap.
Trains, however, can move the stuff without treatment, so the cost differential is reduced by quite a bit. And while they can't make as much, the trains that are actually carrying it, and the upgrades and investment that are occurring right now to work around the pipeline delay stand as testimony to the fact that it is certainly somewhat profitable for the people at the top.
