(13,877 posts)Tea Party on Right and Liberals on the Left, and the work they do determines what is Center Right or Center Left for each election cycle. Bernie Sanders can do it because "he's harmless" being an Independent Socialist. He's the only Senator listed on the Progressive Caucus. Likely Cruz is being marginalized in the same way. He is a populist token for the Far Right.
But the Center position determines where the final presidential candidates have to plant themselves, with occasional moves, statements, lip service, whatever, to their individual voters...Populists.
A candidate without a serious national political organization staffed by seasoned and expensive pros, influence, name recognition and funding can't get a billion dollars and 6 million votes. And it's so bitter now, that even those that might run given a chance, are wealthy enough to go 2 years without working and self-finance in the beginning, who would ask their family to submit to the kind of publicity and witch hunt that is now common political practice.
The Populist segment or candidate is what is left of the actual people's voice of the parties, the Town Hall remnant. Both Center candidates are financed by corporations, special interests and PACs.
Just IMO.
