My belief is that no big name Democrat showed up to support Buono [View all]

because they didn't want to appear to lose some sort of proxy war to Christie. Buono would still have lost, though likely with a smaller margin and the narrative for the media would be that "Obama/Clinton/some-other-important-Democrat loses to Christie in 2016"

To that degree even if I don't approve of it, I understand why they stayed away from this.
