26. as a breast cancer survivor, let me clue you in on a few things
Tue Nov 12, 2013, 06:45 PM
Nov 2013

1) science has no clue about what causes cancer, so preventing it...well, they are pretty clueless about that too. and honestly, there is a lot of variance on how breast cancer is treated.
2) if you are unlucky enough to get breast cancer, mastectomy is thankfully available for those who need it.
3) education is great, but see #1. in the case of breast cancer in women, there are some things that might lessen your risk of developing it, but please see #1 again.
4) i'm all for funding research, e.g., the kind that lead the Genentech's Oncotype DX test., which saved me from chemo. still, that test is not yet standard, and it should be. too many women are doing chemo needlessly because they are not offered that test.
but see #1...again...for the reality of where we are now in terms of breast cancer.
and yes...your comparison is still lame.
