13. In dispatch we received double time

and the owners of a couple of restaurants in town would cook for us (the owners, not the staff) and drop off the massive meals the night before as a thank you for our service. (Everyone remembers police and fire, sometimes EMS but never dispatch). In mental health I was an employee of the state so I received holiday time, which was a paid day off at a later date. We always had a huge potluck in the office on holidays too.

I worked in a gas station one year on Christmas-no holiday pay, no thank you, not even a single break during the shift. Minimum wage all day long.
