the DC 'burbs where I grew up. Solidly middle class, and just about every neighborhood had community pools and tennis courts. We'd ride our bikes and hang out ALL DAY. When we got old enough, we worked as lifeguards or at the snack bar, or as "day nannies" to younger kids in the 'hood. Life was good.
