In reply to the discussion: No Christmas Bonus this year... [View all]LWolf
(46,179 posts)I'd give it back in a heartbeat if we could do away with the current ed deforms that led to that "bonus."
I got my bonus for my students' standardized test scores. It's a required part of a federal grant my district took, selling our professional ethics down the river for cash in strapped times.
I don't support high stakes testing of any kind. I don't support the use of test scores to threaten and browbeat teachers or students, or to narrow curriculum, or to politically control public education.
My bonus will: 1. Pay for the plumbing repairs necessary when temperatures plunged to -17 recently. 2. Donate to the pool that our certified staff will form to voluntarily share with classified, since the grant doesn't recognize the work of support staff. 3. Go to a couple of local organizations trying to get the homeless and other poor and at-risk people through the winter.
