27. Here are the facts

1) Russia is a country whose brutal KGB Officer/President has been directly and credibly tied to political murders and murders of journalists. Even those murders that were not part of Putin's direct involvement still are part of an atmosphere of intimidation against journalists that Putin encourages. Here is a partial list of those murders:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_journalists_killed_in_Russia

This ongoing attack on journalists, which for example includes the expulsion yesterday of Satter goes unreported and unremarked among the GG apologists at DU.

http://www.cnn.com/2014/01/13/world/europe/russia-journalist-expelled/

Occasionally Putin's carefully sculpted PR façade slips and his admiration for the mass murdering Stalin slips out:

http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/vladimir-putin-soviet-leader-joseph-stalin-was-no-worse-than-oliver-cromwell-9016836.html

“What’s the real difference between Cromwell and Stalin? None whatsoever,” Mr Putin said on Thursday, according to news service RIA Novosti.

Mr Putin made the comments at a press conference after he was asked about a monument to Stalin being put up in Moscow.

The city said recently that it planned to commemorate all Soviet leaders who had lived there.

The president said that Stalin was just as deserving of a statue in his honour as that “cunning fellow” Cromwell who “played a very ambiguous role in Britain’s history”.

2) Pogrom against Gays. The oldest trick in the Czarist book is when you are starting to get exposed domestically then start a pogrom to divert attention. Now he has updated the Czarist technique with an attack on Russian Gays. Human Rights activists believe that after the Olympics that the situation for Gays in Russia will deteriorate seriously.

http://www.wbur.org/npr/260457414/how-will-nbc-cover-gay-issues-during-russian-olympics

3) Glenn Greenwald, a gay journalist, is helping Putin by allowing him to create a Potemkin type image that he is against terrible government actions and the great proponent of human rights. Glenn Greenwald and Wikileaks stay silent on journalistic oppression, including murder by Putin and the pogrom against Gays.

4) GG and Wikileaks have received cables not simply related to the US, but virtually every country around as part of the cache from Manning and others that reveal terrible secrets that have harmed those countries national image and interests. But when it comes to Russia the most critical documents that we seem to get are 6 year old reports on the meat industry.

http://www.wikileaks.org/wiki/CRS:_U.S.-Russia_Meat_and_Poultry_Trade_Issues,_September_11,_2008

GG has been conspicuously quiet about the worst human rights abuses by any developed country. If you google Glenn Greenwald criticizes Russia you will get almost nothing, but this is the 4th item in my search:

http://www.democraticunderground.com/?com=view_post&forum=1002&pid=3386635

But Greenwald is a guy who frequently gets the big issues wrong, as he did on the invasion of Iraq.

As to your sophomoric question on what I know that Greenwald is in possession of but is holding back?

Really?

How does anybody have any knowledge of what anybody else knows but refuses to disclose.

In this case the facts about Russian actions are not particularly secret and you would have to assume that Greenwald was in possession of the basic facts.

But Greenwald goes even further. In this lengthy article he discloses a very detailed knowledge of Russian human rights abuses. He uses that knowledge not to attack Russia but to attack human rights activists who criticize Russia (and Ecuador who is also a candidate for Snowden asylum) in this lengthy article in the Guardian in which he attacks human rights activists who criticize Russia.

His title of the article is:Human rights critics of Russia and Ecuador parade their own hypocrisy

http://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2012/aug/21/human-rights-critics-russia-ecuador

He concludes with this heaping mound of bull

would take more seriously all of this very inspirational, newfound worry about Ecuadorian press freedoms and Russian free speech rights on the part of Western media figures if they evinced any similar interest in infringements and abuses by their own governments and their allies: ones much more difficult, though much more consequential, to oppose.

The NSA 215 program probably is an over hyped under performing waste of government money that doesn't have enough oversight and safeguards. Those serious problems need to be addressed before innocent people are hurt by loss of property or life. To put this on the same footing as the journalist/political murdering, Stalinist loving, gay bashing dictator Putin, is rather laughable.

Now why has GG gotten so protective of his investment in Russia with Snowden's temporary sanctuary? Because if it falls apart and both Manning and Snowden suffer from some very bad strategic advice, which I believe both have received from GG (and now I don't have a copy of his emails) then perhaps others will begin to question their future with him.

So why has GG gone tone deaf on the ongoing persecution of journalists and gays in Russia?

http://www.ibtimes.com/ebay-founder-pierre-omidyars-250m-news-venture-glenn-greenwald-receives-first-tranche-funding

Pierre Omidyar, the founder of eBay (NASDAQ: EBAY), on Thursday, dropped $50 million, the first tranche of a $250 million investment, into his ambitious new journalism venture launched with Glenn Greenwald -- the former Guardian journalist who broke several stories on surveillance programs carried out primarily by the U.S. government.

This is more time and effort than GG deserves so I leave you with the final reply and last word the Human Rights (except never say a word against the worst guy) Journalist (unless its news about Russia) Gay (who expresses no solidarity with those being targeted for prosecution) Glenn Greenwald.
