(11,175 posts)The sarcasm graphic means that the author actually believes the exact opposite of what's posted. The post uses sarcasm to criticize a particular opinion.
My point is that the opinion being criticized is not one that any DUers actually hold. That's why it's a straw man.
Consider this hypothetical post: "Yeah, Obama's college-student mother spent a huge amount of money flying halfway around the world to give birth in a third world country, then, knowing that her son would run for President, she planted a fake birth announcement in the Honolulu paper. That makes total sense to me." That would be a similar use of sarcasm to criticize a particular opinion. The difference is that the opinion being criticized is one that numerous people actually hold and repeatedly express, so it's not a straw man.
