(26,549 posts)On the bassinett, I highly recommend just using a car seat like these: http://www.toysrus.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=2256195
They're basically baby carriers that latch into a base that stays in the car. Have the baby sleep in the carrier (in the house- leave the base in the car). Use a blanket to prop up the leg-end so the baby's mostly level. The baby sleeps much better because the baby's legs are supported and seat envelops them - the baby did just come from a rather confined environment. Also means the baby can nap wherever is convenient instead of taking them to wherever their bassinet is.
Additionally, it avoids the flat-head and developmental problems from "back to sleep" without introducing potential dangers from not-back-to-sleep.
After a couple months, put them in a "regular" crib and skip the bassinet.
